We are now accepting applications for the 2009-2010 teacher training at our Pittsburgh location.  The course begins in October.

Dedicated to a tradition of excellence in teaching for more than 37 years, the Himalayan Institute offers yoga teachers comprehensive and systematic training in classical yoga. We teach yogic techniques for body, breath, mind, and spirit in our 200-and 500-hour  programs.  Our programs include meditation, quality asana instruction, training in pranayama and relaxation techniques, therapeutic yoga, and yoga philosophy and psychology.

The Himalayan Institute is a registered school with Yoga Alliance, meeting the requirement for national registration at both the 200- and 500-hour levels.

The course includes:

200hour

  • Asana practice and teaching
  • Yoga philosophy and psychology
  • Study of the Yoga Sutra
  • Systematic breath training
  • Pranayama practice and teaching
  • Relaxation techniques and teaching
  • Structuring and sequencing classes
  • Practice teaching
  • Theory and practice of meditation
  • Stress management tools
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Introduction to Sanskrit
  • Functions of the mind
  • Study of the Bhagavad Gita

Prerequisites: At least two years prior experience in hatha yoga and a regular practice. Participation is by application only.

Certification
Participants who complete the program receive Yoga Teacher Certification from the Himalayan Institute Teachers Association (HITA), and are also eligible to apply for the 200-hour level of registration (RYT) with Yoga Alliance. Most participants complete their certification requirements in one to two years.

The ancients perceived the breath, and not the heart pulse, to be the most   critical function of the living organism.  The breath is magical in that we can intentionally take part in and develop this underpinning depth of our life.

This seminar will introduce you to pranayama practice, also focusing on asana and relaxation.  Let the breath be  your Guru!

STRETCH, BREATHE AND MEDITATE
Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 -10 am.

Start the day with group meditation.  The session will start with gentle movement to prepare the body to sit and will include pranayama and a short meditation

First Monday of Each Month

$5 Suggested Donation per class

This discussion group will meet the first Monday of each month, beginning in February. Please read Swami Rama’s “Living with the Himalayan Masters” before the first session. Join us as we explore the Himalayan tradition as lived by our founder Swami Rama and discover its applications to our daily lives.

Lebanon, Himalayan Institute Pittsburgh is the local branch of the world-wide network of centers designed to promote self-awareness and holistic health through the practice and teaching of the yoga tradition. As a non-profit, educational facility, we help members incorporate the principles of yoga into everyday life, creating opportunities for balance and happiness.
